“The term Wabul Sawi itself, which is an acronym for ‘wani baidabul sanggup manggawi,’ embodies the spirit of the Banjar people, meaning ‘dare to intend, then able to carry out what is intended,'” he continued.
With the hope that the Poetry Festival organized by the Akademi Bangku Panjang Mingguraya will reach new niches not only in Banjarbaru, the capital of South Kalimantan province, but also in other areas outside Banjarbaru, involving selected women through a curation system from the Banua Anam region (Upper Rivers), namely Tapin Regency, South Hulu Sungai Regency, Central Hulu Sungai Regency, North Hulu Sungai Regency, Balangan Regency, and Tabalong Regency.
Output of the Wabul Sawi Poetry Festival
The projection of the Wabul Sawi Poetry Festival aims to increase the capacity of women’s resources in familiarizing themselves with the environment in the Meratus mountain area through all their activities as women through poetry works. From here, it is hoped that significant works will emerge, written by women from what they see directly as a poetic portrait to bring works closer to the reality of customs at the foot of the mountains in the Loksado area, South Hulu Sungai.
The activities of FPWS with 50 selected female writers include workshops related to improving and strengthening poetry writing techniques, mentoring with 5 local speakers in the Loksado area, followed by a poetry writing competition. In addition, 150 participants from the local community, student representatives, teachers, and community organizations from South Hulu Sungai will join the appreciation activities on the peak day, October 13, 2024.
FPWS is fully supported by the Language Agency of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Language Center of South Kalimantan Province. This event will be opened on October 11, 2024, by the Acting Regent of South Hulu Sungai, accompanied by the Head of the Education and Culture Office, the Head of the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Office. The Poetry Feast closing on October 13 will be closed by the Language Agency of Pusbanglin and the Head of the Language Center of South Kalimantan Province.
“To the female writers who did not pass the curation at FPWS, do not be discouraged, keep creating,” concluded Hudan, whose poetry book once received the Commendable Poetry Book Award, Indonesian Poetry Day Award from the Indonesian Poetry Day Foundation in 2019.
The person in charge of FPWS, Bumi B. Ibra, mentioned that all female writers would be included in a WhatsApp Group (WAG) for communication and information about the event.
“Soon, all selected female writers will be included in the WAG and later assisted by Diang Anggrek as the event coordinator,” explained Bumi when contacted by the editorial team on October 5, 2024.
It is known that the participants are young women aged 16-35 years who reside in the Upper Rivers. They submitted their works, which were curated by a team of curators/judges. The team consists of Hudan Nur, Sandi Firly, and Aliman Syahrani.
“We hope that the FPWS event runs smoothly and that the weather in the Loksado mountains will be favorable,” concluded Bumi.
